Serve at a local Austin Refugee Family Camp!

Join us for a meaningful opportunity to serve at a refugee family camp hosted by More Than Welcome. This camp is designed to provide refugee families with encouragement, community, and support - and we need volunteers like you to help make it a success.

More Than Welcome is a partner of Hill Country Bible Church. It is dedicated to helping refugees and asylum seekers successfully transition into our community. Their mission is to share the love of Christ by welcoming, serving, and building relationships that make these families feel truly at home.

Each member of the team will be assigned roles and responsibilities based on More Than Welcome's needs for the week. Some ways you might serve include:

• Driving Families: Help transport families to and from the camp, ensuring a smooth and welcoming experience.
• Childcare: Care for and engage with children, providing a safe and fun environment while parents participate in camp activities.
• Teaching ESL: Assist non-native English speakers in developing language skills through structured lessons and conversation practice.
• Tea Time Team: Coordinate and host a tea time experience for adults, creating a welcoming space for fellowship and conversation.
• Snack Team: Coordinate snacks for the 100+ participants, including purchasing, sorting, and distributing snacks throughout the camp week.
• Healing Group: Provide a space for adults to listen, share, and pray with one another, offering emotional and spiritual support
• Teen Cross-Cultural Exchange: Teenagers will have the opportunity to meet and build friendships with peers from different cultures and faith backgrounds, learning to listen and share in a loving and respectful manner.
• Helping with Kids' Activities: Lead or assist in games, crafts, and other recreational activities that make the camp experience enjoyable for kids.

Your willingness to serve can make a lasting impact on these families. Whether you have experience in any of these areas or just a heart to help, there’s a place for you to serve at the Refugee Family Camp!

Team Details:

Time Commitment: The team will serve at a church in North Austin from June 2nd to 5th, 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. On the 5th, we will gather as a team to share a meal and stories after camp from 2:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Morning drivers will need to be available at 9:30 a.m. and afternoon drivers will drive families home at 2 p.m.
Age Restrictions: You must be 16 or older to serve alone. Teens ages 13-15 may participate but must sign up with a parent or guardian.
Space availability: There are 35 spots available, with up to 15 spots for minors and the rest reserved for adults.
Cost: The cost covers your GO shirt, debrief meal, GO notebook, and a small donation to More Than Welcome to help cover snacks for the week.

Additional Details:

• Volunteers will provide their own transportation to the camp.
• Lunch will not be provided, but volunteers are welcome to share snacks provided by the camp.
• On June 5th, the team will gather at 2:30 PM for a meal and debrief session after camp.
