Focus
The team will be working with a Mayan tribe about 3.5 hours north of Guatemala City. The partner on the ground is planting new churches and fellowships in the area's villages. After the completion of the Bible in their native language, they are seeing a lot of growth and spiritual interest/openness. Our team will work alongside a local missionary, who trains church planters throughout Guatemala's rural areas to plant healthy multiplying churches. The team will also have 1-2 service projects during the week. This trip will have opportunities for:
- Community outreach and evangelism
- Spiritual conversations and care with prayer
- Leadership development and training
Trip Schedule
There will be an orientation on the first day the team arrives. This time will include practicing sharing the gospel with a translator. While every day will look different you can expect a daily leadership training which will include worship. The team will also go out twice a day for 4 hours at a time to visit strategic locations and engage people in intentional conversations. These locations will be determined by our partner and where they are working to plant a church. Every evening the team will debrief together and share stories from their day. On the last day, the team will visit Antigua for a cultural day.Logistics
The team will fly into Guatemala City and then be driven by bus to the partner's housing home. The team will stay in the home and have an assigned room. During the week, the team will travel by bus together to different locations nearby. Once you arrive at the ministry locations you can expect to walk a lot. Meals will be provided by the partner's team.Trip Leader
Being a short-term mission trip leader is a rewarding experience. As a trip leader, you get to encourage your trip members in their individual walks with Jesus; create and facilitate relationships that can change people’s lives; plant seeds of faith; see people cared for, prayed for, saved, and baptized; and witness disciples being made. Learn more about what it means to be a Team Leader here. If you are interested in being a trip leader, you apply through the application and select "Yes" on the "Trip Leader" question. A Global Outreach team member will reach out to help walk you through the process.
Trip Trainings
Our goal is to send teams that are a blessing to our partners which means sending a team that is fully prepared when they reach their destination. To ensure our teams are ready, we have teams go through four mandatory trainings. Trainings are designed to help each participant grow as a disciple of Jesus, be fully prepared for your time on the field, get to know your team before travel, and identify your role in fulfilling the Great Commission even after the trip is over. There will be 4 mandatory trainings before the trip. The dates will be listed in your Service Reef profile under meetings once your application is approved. Trainings are normally held on Sunday afternoons. If you have to miss a training because of a prior commitment or illness, you will need to connect with your Team Leader to review all the material you missed. Missing more than one training is grounds for removal from the team.
Support Raising
All trip participants are encouraged to support raise for their trip. It is an opportunity to see how God provides. Global Outreach will be doing an in-person support-raising training at your 1st training. We will also provide you with a support-raising packet to help walk you through the process.
